Let's Get StartedWhat is a Community Event?
Community events are celebrations of a county, town, neighborhood or other area. Celebrations can be free to the public, require event tickets, or a combination. Events can be financed by local governments, event tickets, sponsorships or a combination.
Public events can help connect the general public with community groups, companies and other organizations. Organizers can plan a full calendar of community events, or a single event.
Community events can last for one day, a weekend, or for several weeks. Saturday and Sunday community events are most common. Community events can be held inside, on private property, in a park, or organizers can choose to close streets for the events. Publicity for the event can include local media, social media, an event specific website, community calendar, or publicity by any community members looking to show support.

Cultural Community Events
Cultural community events celebrate a specific ethnic culture. Make It Happen Events has worked on dozens of cultural events, including for International House Harrisburg and the World Stage at Musicfest.
We have produced cultural community events ranging from Hispanic Heritage festivals, German Christmas markets, Chinese celebrations to Italian bocce tournaments. We place a priority on preserving and presenting cultural traditions of many communities. Discover how we can help you.

Military, Veterans or Patriotic Community Events
National holidays like Memorial Day, Flag Day, Armed Forces Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, VE Day, VJ Day, Pearl Harbor Day, and 9-11 are opportunities to celebrate or commemorate national events with a community event.
Parades, flag raisings, encampments with reenactors, concerts, name readings, and of course, fireworks, can be great ways to celebrate. We have done all of those, and we’re always looking for more.
Get in TouchCommunity Events: Festivals & Fairs
We have produced WinterFest, PumpkinFest, KiteFest, BerryFest, OktoberFest and more.
Ongoing Community Events
Do you have existing festivals, but your volunteer committee is running out of steam? We can integrate with your efforts and take on specific tasks to help continue your community event.
Work with us to protect and carry on your community’s tradition of annual fairs and festivals. We want to make sure these traditions carry on for year after year to come.
Founding New Community events
We also love to make new traditions and create new festivals or fairs in local communities. We are preparing to celebrate the 5th Annual Christkindlmarkt in Lower Paxton. What great ideas do you and your group have to celebrate your community?

Community Events for Town Anniversaries
The anniversary of a town’s founding is a wonderful thing to celebrate with a community event to bring everyone in the community together, create opportunities for people to visit, and help to ensure that the community will continue to grow and prosper.
We work with city hall, community groups, community companies, and community members. People from your local historical society, cultural groups, educational institutions, companies and community groups, all can be part of your community’s anniversary celebrations.
We can help you reach out and start a conversation today with these groups. Find your date and let us help you plan events to celebrate your community with you! We can provide support to community members and work with each city department to build a community event or series of events that celebrate the unique aspects of your community.

Memorial Day, Independence Day (4th of July), Halloween and community anniversaries are great opportunities to hold a parade.
Date selection, finance, registration, unit order, day of organization, rout selection, street closings, detours, parking, community support, emergency response, and publicity are just a few of the many things to plan when organizing a parade. We’ve done our share, so we can help!

Get in TouchProgram Creation
Maybe its two or three days, or maybe it can be done in an hour. A reception could kick things off, or maybe a general session provides a shared experience to begin. Entertainment, speakers, panelists . . . think through the overall plan before filling in the details. We’ve done it before and know some tricks.
Venue Selection
The right location is the cornerstone for success and we know where to go. Some events belong in a hotel, some belong at your location or somewhere completely unexpected. Whether inside or outside, or several places, make your venue decision with our help.
Site Prep and Management
Once you have your location, what’s next? First, determine the elements, then how they relate to each other. From parking to staging, event flow to staffing, we guide you though all the decisions, even the ones you didn’t know you need to make.
Budget Management
It’s easy to get lost in the details, but plan your work and work your plan. We can help you create a strategy that fits your budget, then monitor expenditures and revenue to keep things on track.
